we picked the perfect weekend to get away. the weather here was terrible, so i am told. it was rainy and cold. chris, tim, paul, dwight and i were in durango, co doing the iron horse bicycle classic. it was a great first road race for me. i was a mess at the first of the race. i don't do well in peletons and although the pace was easy i kept drifting to the back. then we hit the hills and i realized that i was in a poor position. i went hard until i regrouped with the leaders. that was difficult, but i was able to stay with them for awhile.
after a while, i could no longer keep with the attacks and fell back. i climbed consistenly at 170 bpm. i was surpised to see the molas pass sign as quickly as i did. i had to ask a guy if it was the last climb and he confirmed that it was. i couldn't believe it. i felt great climbing and solid in the decents.
i finished six seconds behind first. i think she blew by me at the very end. she, who ever she was, surprised me and i couldn't respond. i had a great time though. click here for the results.
chris did awesome. he ended up missing his start by atleast seven minutes we figure and still ended up in 9th place.
