I need a new digital camera. My Sony after two and half years is pretty much done. I cracked the screen over a year ago. I am not sure exactly how or when it happened, but it looks as though it was in my jersey pocket and I leaned up against the nose of my saddle. Oops! For the past month or so, the zoom has stopped working. It takes forever to turn on and sounds like the zoom is adjusting but it doesn't.

So I am looking at purchasing something new. I know I want something compact. My current camera was a gift and it was great, but I think this time I would like something slimmer. I am not sure if I need to pay for something durable. Since I am cheap, I mean frugal, I would prefer not to pay for something shock proof, if it is not needed. Any recommendations? What do you like about yours?

We've had 3 Canon's and they have all taken good pictures. Whereas the Pentax we have often takes bad pictures.

If you want to save money, buy a used Canon. Our current camera is a 5 megapixel Canon PowerShot A610. We love it, but I think you'd prefer something smaller and lighter. Look for others in the Canon line.

These sights have great camera reviews:

Canon is the only way to go. I have had 2 Powershot SD's (1000) currently. I've dropped mine many times and works great. I ride with it all the time. The battery lasts forever and charges quickly. I gave the old one to the boys. So if they can use it I'm sure you can :)

My PowerShot SD 1000 has been great.

Whichever camera you get, spend an extra 8-12 bucks and get a good case for it. You can get ones that still protect the camera while still remaining slim.
