I returned from Girl's Camp last night around 10 pm. Camp was only about half over, but I had to get back so I could unpack, repack and leave for Leadville. We made it, but wouldn't you know it--rain. It has not rained since the Deer Valley ICUP race, but sure enough it is wet.
I am so nervous. My anxiety is two fold. First, the weather. I just don't do well when it is wet. We are looking at a 40% chance of thunderstorms with a high of 66 and a low of 41. Winds 12 mph on race day.
Secondly, there is a neutral start which keeps the group together. That means I have to ride in a peleton. I am terrible in a peleton. I get so squeamish. I am going to end up so far back.
This may not have been such a a good idea and expectations are pretty high. Hopefully, everything goes well.

I'm not fond of bunch starts either. Keep your head down and focus on the wheel in front of you - maybe Chris'. Wishing you both luck!

If I remember correctly from my 2000 ride it spreads out pretty quickly. The weather on the other hand can't get worse than when I did it. OVer 50% of the field dropped out. Remember you have a long time to make up time in other places, so don't rush it. Good luck and HAVE FUN!
